Heidi Powell

Violin

Step 1: Meet Your Teacher

Heidi has a calm, even-keeled presence that puts students at ease the moment they walk in. She's also, quietly, one of the most accomplished Baroque violinists in the country. The New York Times called her prize-winning performance "supremely confident and powerful." She's a mother, and when not teaching or performing, you'll find her outside. Hiking, swimming, cooking great food, or out in the woods with her son.

What lessons are like: Heidi's looking for students who want to study and love music for the long haul, at whatever pace that takes. She's especially skilled with non-traditional learners, and her steadiness makes her a natural fit for students who need a little extra patience to find their footing. That said, if you're chasing virtuosity and looking to push the envelope, Heidi can absolutely guide you there.

Great for: students looking for a long-term musical home, not a quick finish line · non-traditional learners · ambitious players who want to be pushed artistically · adults and teens interested in playing in groups

Background: Heidi holds a Bachelor of Music from Indiana University and an Artist Diploma from Oberlin Conservatory, two of the top conservatories in the country. She's a nationally recognized Baroque violin specialist and the founder and director of the Baroque Orchestra of Maine, where she's spent years making Baroque music more accessible to the wider community. She also serves as Music Director at Bar Harbor Congregational Church and director of the Bar Harbor Community Orchestra, roles that reflect Heidi’s ability to bring people together through music.
