Carla Tanguay
Adaptive Music Lessons / Piano
Step 1: Meet Your Teacher
Growing up, Carla was the student at her local community music center taking every type of lesson she could. Today, she enjoys helping people of all ages and abilities discover that music is something everyone can experience, enjoy, and grow from.
What lessons are like: Carla meets every student exactly where they are — any age, any ability — and builds from there. Her approach is personalized and flexible by design: less about hitting a fixed curriculum, more about finding what lights a student up and building real skill around it. She brings 25 years of experience helping people connect with music, and it shows in how naturally she puts people at ease.
Great for: students of any age or ability · families looking for a warm, no-pressure entry point into music · people looking to improve their wellbeing
Background: Carla holds a Bachelor of Music Education/Therapy from the College of Wooster and a Master of Arts in Music Therapy from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. She spent 11 years as a hospice music therapist before moving to Maine in 2012 to launch the music therapy program at Mount Desert Island Hospital. In 2016, she founded her own practice, Modulations Therapies, where she has spent the past decade helping hundreds of people throughout the region connect, grow, and thrive through music.. She's a board-certified music therapist, published researcher, and recipient of a professional practice award from the American Music Therapy Association.
